Victor “Vic” Lee Tate, 87, of Centralia, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.He was born December 20, 1935, in Centralia, the son of Omar Tate and Ruby (Shaw) Tate. He married Shirley (Meredith) Tate on June 27, 1958, and she survives in Centralia.Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia. Burial will follow at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in rural Centralia. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home and also on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund and/or Donor’s Choice and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Tate Family. Online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.sutherlandfuneralhome.com and the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home Facebook Page.In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his three children: Greg Tate and wife Regina of Walnut Hill, Leanne Phillips and husband Danny of Centralia, and Laura Huge and husband Rick of Carlyle; daughter-in-law: Rose Tate of Centralia; ten grandchildren: Ashley Wilkinson and husband Eric of Walnut Hill, Brandon Tate of Champaign, Ryan Tate of Walnut Hill, Hailey Mann and husband Jon of Centralia, Seth Tate and wife Megan of Centralia, Sevearn Phillips and wife Brittany of Walnut Hill, Victoria Phillips and Logan Wollerman of Dix, Candie Huge and Mike Brown of Smithland, KY, Ethan Huge and Molly Althoff of Carlyle, and Ricky Joel Huge of Carlyle; five great-grandchildren: Meredith, Drake, Josie, Addie, and Drew; a sister: Dorothy Ford of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents: Omar and Ruby Tate, a son: Jim Tate, and three brothers: Gene Tate, Mervin Tate, and Aldin Tate.Vic grew up in Centralia and graduated from Centralia High School with the Class of 1953. He worked for Illinois Central Railroad for 30 years, 10 years for MCHA, and was the Founder and Partner of Tates Plumbing for 25 years. He and his wife, Shirley, attended Cornerstone Methodist Church in Centralia for several years. Vic was an outdoorsman, he enjoyed mowing his grass and riding around on the tractor. His family was a big part of his life and he enjoyed the Sunday get-togethers.
