The lease has now been signed to allow use of the Save-a-Lot building on West Main Street by several community organizations until the city is ready to move forward on renovating the structure into a new police station.
City Manager Rex Barbee says the lease will allow the Salem Foundation to sublease the building to Mission Salem, Mission South Central and Sleep in Heavenly Peace. The organizations are all planning on using the building to store materials and to conduct builds of ramps or beds that are provided to the less fortunate in the community.
Mission Salem’s Randy Donoho says they will soon begin work on installing a garage door to allow vehicles to enter the vehicle and begin cleanup of the floor and the removal of two small non- support walls.
The Salem Foundation is only paying a token rent to use the building. The city council had earlier agreed to have the lease worked out.
