Franklin Park students complete record breaking canned food drive

By WJBD Staff Mar 16, 2022 | 8:30 AM

The Franklin Park canned food drive easily surpassed all past record with the equivalent of 15,230 canned food items collected.

The last actual canned food drive before COVID collected around 8,000 cans of food. A cash drive was held last year due to COVID-19 with $4,200 collected which translates into about 7,615 cans.

All the donations go to the Salem Food Pantry to help the less fortunate in the community.

Principal Tyler Lux is very pleased with the efforts of the staff and students in the collection drive. He’s also thanking businesses and community members for their donations to the worthy cause.

The eighth grade class won the class competition, collecting 10,752 cans of food. Eighth grade teacher Nicole Rexilus and her class won the individual room award, collecting 4,768 cans of food themselves.

There were a number of incentive prizes offered, including the big one of getting to slime the principal and several others this spring.
