Auditions set for ‘Biloxi Blues’ this Saturday and Sunday

By Bruce Kropp Mar 15, 2022 | 4:56 PM

Auditions will be held this Saturday and Sunday for the Salem Community Theatre’s performance of “Biloxi Blues”.    The coming-of-age play written by Neil Simon will be performed on the weekends of June 3rd-5th and June 10th-12th.

The play is very similar to the movie version that was released in 1988, starring Matthew Broderick and Christopher Walken. This show will include adult-themed topics such as racism, loss of virginity, and the use of foul language because it centers around six young men shipped off to serve in World War 2.

Auditions for “Biloxi Blues” will be held on Saturday, March 19th from 10 a.m. until noon, and Sunday, March 20th from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Salem Community Theatre.

Director Michelle Barbee is looking for six young men (high school and college-aged), one older man, one young woman (high school and college-aged), and one older woman. Everyone auditioning will be required to read selections from the script and should be prepared to attend rehearsals throughout the months of April and May.    Barbee says the rehearsal schedule will be flexible to work around students’ school schedules until classes are out for the summer.
