Kinmundy has new alderman, city website online

The Kinmundy Board of Alderman on a split vote has named Cory Thompson to fill an opening for Ward Two alderman. Thompson will fill the opening left by Gina Jenkins who resigned last month due to lack of time to fulfill her duties. Thompson’s approval on a 3-2 vote followed a split vote on tabling the appointment.

Some board members wanted to look further for candidates to fill the opening, but Mayor Angela Diss noted she had talked to a number of persons and Thompson was the only one who had expressed interest.

The board was told the city’s new website CityofKinmundy.com was now on line. The city is seeking submittal of photos to add to the information on the website. The board Thursday night agreed to pay an additional $265 a year to allow for the city to be able to send out text and phone messages to those wanting to subscribe to the notification service. The original contract allowed for just e-mail notifications.

Two residents who had been contacted by the city attorney for alleged ordinance violations addressed the board claiming they were being singled out when there were properties with worse problems. The board will ask the city attorney to further review the violation ordinance complaints to make sure they are
appropriate.
