A 35-year-old Centralia man has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Jerry Courtney had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge.   The federal time will be served consecutively with any sentence handed down in his pending 2012 Marion County felony weapons charge.

Courtney was charged in federal court after a 9 mm Taurus handgun was found in a bag inside a car from which he fled during a traffic stop. He will have to forfeit the gun and all its ammunition as part of the plea agreement.
