Dorris J. Cantrell, age 92, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away Friday morning, March 3, 2023, at her home.
She was born September 8, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Clarence Orvil Garrison and Dorris Juanita (Seaton) Garrison. Dorris married Fred Cantrell on June 11, 1948, in Morganfield, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1993.
Dorris enjoyed cooking, roller skating and ice skating, playing cards, gardening, and watching hummingbirds. She graduated from Lee Center High School. She and Fred ran a truck stop in Ashton, Illinois. She worked as a cook at Xenia Cafe and Cisne High School, and later worked at the Orchardville grocery store until retirement.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Linda Coatney of Mt. Vernon and Donna Cantrell; son: Bruce Cantrell of Xenia; brother: Clarence Orvil (wife Sharon) Garrison, Jr. of Hillsboro, Missouri; 4 grandchildren: Sarah, Erin, Jessica, and Alison; several great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law: Barbara Garrison of Salem.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter: Connie; and 4 siblings: Billie June Bock, Marion Thomas “Tom” Garrison, Clara Jane Soukup, and Clifton Frederick “Freddie” Garrison.
A visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Frank and Bright Funeral Home in Flora. A funeral ceremony will be held beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at the funeral home, with Lawrence Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Powers Cemetery, Xenia.
