State Police Department of Criminal Investigation have been asked by Collinsville Police to investigate a fatal shooting by an officer in the department.
State Police say Collinsville Police were called to a home Tuesday night for a reported home invasion. When officers arrived, they observed 45-year-old Kevin Steinhauer of East Carondelet inside the residence with a firearm. Reportedly, after repeated orders from the officers to drop the weapon, Steinhauer opened the door and fired at the officers. Officers returned fire and struck Steinhauer. Officers attempted to render aid, but Steinhauer succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
No officers were injured in the incident.
The investigation is still ongoing. No further information is being released.
