Centralia Police have asked the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigations unit to comb two stolen vehicles that were later recovered to try and determine who may have been involved in their thefts.
Centralia Police Lieutenant Steve Whritenour says one of the vehicles was stolen Monday night from the 500 block of West Second. The owner reported the vehicle disappeared sometime between 5:30 and eight Monday evening. Police later found the vehicle abandoned and parked just off the road near the East and West Haven Road intersection.
The second vehicle was stolen Tuesday evening in the 500 block of West Seventh. The owner of the 2001 Ford Explorer saw it being driven off. Wamac Police later found it unoccupied at Sixth and Brookside.
At this point, there is nothing to indicate the thefts are related.
Whritenour reports vehicle burglaries are picking up with the nicer weather including two on Tuesday in the 1200 block of East Broadway and the 1300 block of South Cherry. He is reminding everyone to lock their vehicles and not leave key FOBs inside that allow for easy entry and theft of vehicles.
