Roy Eugene Rodgers, 83 of Farina, Illinois passed away February 24, 2023, at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation in Effingham, IL with family at his side.Born February 3, 1940, in Illmo, Missouri, he was the son of Roy R. and Dorothy M. (Wilson) Rodgers who preceded him in death.Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Salem with Dr. Andy DeWitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Paradise Cemetery in Salem. Visiting hours will be at the First Baptist Church in Salem from 11:00 am until the service hour. The family suggests memorials be made to Gideon International and will be accepted by the Sutherland – Rankin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 97, 310 N. (Charlene) Rodgers of Harrisburg, IL, Leah A. Schodlatz of Bethany, IL along with grandchildren John (Catherine) Pollock of Effingham, IL, Samuel Rodgers of Harrisburg, IL, and Ryan (Kylie) Schodlatz of Sullivan, IL. He is also survived by his sister Carol Ann Gilbert of Mt. Vernon, IL, and one sister-in-law Magdalena Rodgers of California.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry S. Rodgers, and Steven M. Rodgers, and his brother-in-law, Jack C. Gilbert.Roy was a retired sales representative for twenty-two and a half years for Monsanto Corporation. He was recognized with the Monsanto Master Salesman Award which he was very honored to receive. A graduate of SIU-Carbondale, he earned his BA, AB, and BS degrees. His career began at Sandoval High School (2 years), teaching vocational agriculture biology ROAG, and later transferred to Farina LaGrove High School (3 years) prior to joining Monsanto. His memberships include being a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Salem where he served as a Deacon. He was active with Gideon International.
