Gloria Jean Staples, 84, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, formerly of Johnston City, Illinois, Clifton, Illinois, passed away at 6:30 pm on February 18, 2023, at home with her family by her side.
She was born June 1, 1938, in Warren County, Indiana to the late Florin and Lena Keith. Gloria married (Buster) Elbert L. Staples on September 7, 1957, in Kankakee, Illinois.
Gloria is survived by her husband Elbert (Buster) L. Staples, children, Rhonda Phelps of Johnston City, Illinois, (Butch) Elbert L. Staples II of Mount Vernon, Illinois, John Staples (Connie) of Goreville, Illinois, grandchildren, (Rhonda Phelps) Mariah (Brandon) Townsend, Malachi (Dawn) Graham, Marocka Greenlee, and Michaellena Graham. (Butch Staples), Brian Staples, and Nicole (Deanna) Staples Whiting. (John Staples) Dustin Staples and Megan Staples, great-grandchildren, (Rhonda) Brode Congleton(US Army), Connor Stout, Calleigh Graham, Adysyn (Mike) Araujo, Morgan Ramos, Brendan Hicks, Shawn Golden Jr (USMC), and Mason Golden, great-great-grandchildren, Landyn and Liam Araujo, sisters Patricia Pedigo of Glendale Heights, Illinois, Carol Farrar of Leander, Texas, Karen Keith of Glendale Heights, Illinois, brothers John Keith of Kankakee, Illinois, Steven Keith, Stanley Keith, Florin Keith all of Chicago.
Gloria was preceded in death by her brother James Keith and great grand-daughter Jessie Lee Saltzgiver.
Gloria was a retired Nurse who worked at the Kankakee State Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, and Herrin Hospital until she retired in 2000. She was a graduate of Kankakee High School Class of 1956 and a graduate of the University of St Francis where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1978.
