SALEM—Kenneth L. Day, 88, died at home on February 15, 2023, after a brief illness.
He was born March 17, 1934, in Sandoval, IL, the son of Kenneth and Zelma (Cummins) Day.
Kenneth graduated from Sandoval High School in 1952. He married Della (Stone) Day on September 1, 1956, and served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958 as a radio operator. He worked for Altadonna IGA in Sandoval, Carlyle, and Centralia, retiring in 2002.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three sisters: Alice Holt Hickson, Frances Wurm, and Jane West, and a brother, Dean Day.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Della Day, are his daughters; Kim Larkin and her husband David of Carbondale, IL, Kellie Grapperhaus and her husband Joe of Patoka, IL, and his son Kad Day and his husband Stephan of Riverside, CA. Grandchildren are Keith Larkin and his wife Kelsey, Darren Larkin and his wife Jenna, Adam Grapperhaus and his wife Amanda, Erin Grapperhaus and special friends Jeff and Isaac Grapperhaus and his wife Megan. Great Grandchildren include Allie Jayne Larkin, Wade Michael Larkin, Will David Larkin, Landen Joseph Grapperhaus, Emma Rayne Grapperhaus, Josey Mae McKenna, Logan Patrick McKenna, and Nash Henry Grapperhaus. Kenneth’s brother, Bob Day and his wife Carolyn of Centralia, IL also survive.
Kenneth attended Salem Grace United Church. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, and hunting with the grand and great-grandchildren, and watching Cardinal Baseball and Illini Basketball. He loved to garden and spend time at the slot machines at various casinos.
Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval will handle the arrangements which include a visitation on February 21 from 4 pm-7 pm. Graveside services will be on February 22nd for family only.
