Elmer Wayne Thorne, 86, of Texico, Illinois, passed away at 6:10 pm on February 14, 2023, at Fireside House in Centralia, Illinois.
He was born June 10, 1936, in Rock, West Virginia to the late Rennie and Beulah (Thomas) Thorne. Elmer married Bessie (Rutledge) Thorne on June 24, 1954, in Matoaka, West Virginia.
Elmer is survived by his sons, Jimmy Elmer Thorne and wife, Sheri Lynn of Mechanicsville, Virginia, and Michael Wayne Thorne and wife, Kelly of Williamsburg, Virginia; daughter, Anita Carol Thorne-Robinson and husband, Kelly of Texico, Illinois; grandchildren, Arthur Wayne Derrenbacker and wife, Jennifer and Jerry Sylvester Ashley, Jr. and wife, Melody, all of South Hill, Virginia, Crystal Gail Webster and husband, Chris of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Kelly Wayne Robinson and wife, Angie of Texico, Lisa Marie Lambrecht and husband, Richard of Mechanicsville, Michael Wayne Thorne III and wife, Michelle of Gatesville, North Carolina, and Jimmy Elmer Thorne, Jr. and wife, Amanda and Charles Dylan Thorne and wife, Emily, all of Mechanicsville; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Leona Morris of Princeton, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Elmer was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Sue Thorne-Martin; grandson, Michael Wayne Thorne II; and siblings, Henry Thorne, Bernard Thorne, Coy Thorne, Ruth Anderson, Effie Hurst, and two infant brothers.
Elmer worked at a grocery store for 28 years. He later worked as a custom cabinet maker. Elmer was a member of the Church of Mount Vernon. He loved working in his garden. Elmer was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He will be deeply missed.
A Visitation will be held Friday, February 17, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home with Pastor David Houseworth officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
