Larry Ross Cain, 80, of Patoka passed away with his family at his side Friday, February 10, 2023, at his home in Patoka.
He was born on August 21, 1942, the son of Harold V. and Marcella E. (Knutt) Cain at his family’s home in Vandalia. He married his sweetheart, Joyce Sussen on December 21, 1985, at the Patoka United Methodist Church, and they never had a dull moment in their adventurous life together.
Survivors that will remember Larry’s killer smile and down-to-earth friendly way include his beloved family, his devoted wife of 37 years, Joyce Cain of Patoka; his children, Jodi (Chris) Carroll of Salem, Denny (Michelle) Ralidak of Patoka, Chris Ralidak of Patoka, Jim (Jodi) Burks of Vernon, Tammy (Roger) Watkins of Saybrook, and John (Steph) Burks of Vernon; grandchildren Victor, Cain (Taylor), Allie (Trevor), Telisa (Kyle), Stephanie (Josh), Angie, Kirsten (Kaitlyn), Johnny Bob (Whitney), Cody, Justin, Tiffanie, Sierra, Riley, and Genny; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Harold “Wes” Cain.
Larry was a dedicated provider for his family, hauling loads as an independent, over the road, semi-truck driver. Not one to let the grass grow under his feet, he also farmed his land, proud of the bountiful harvests he would produce. Larry had a love for antique tractors, collecting them to restore them back to their former glory. He was active in his community, serving as a mason with the Patoka Masonic Lodge 613. Summer evenings would find him weeding his vegetable garden, and he was always the first to share his harvest with family, neighbors, and friends. Larry appreciated family traditions and was known to ride around in his old truck with his dog bango. He was a proud “PaPa” who loved time spent watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. He was a friend to all, would help anybody in need, loved to work hard and play harder, and loved his family fiercely. Larry wouldn’t want anyone to cry or miss him too much but would encourage all to reach out and support each other, making the best of each day.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2023, at Pratt Cemetery in rural Patoka with a family friend, Jim Herrin officiating. Masonic Rites will be an honor to Larry at the graveside.
