2023 02/12 – Janet (Osborn) Sallee

Janet (Osborn) Sallee, 95, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, formerly of Norris City,  passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at GreenTree at Mt. Vernon.

She was born on January 30, 1928, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, the daughter of Curtis and Ina (MacKenzie) Osborn. She married William Henry Sallee Jr. on September 1, 1948, and he preceded her in death on April 16, 1988.

Janet drove a bus for the N.C.O.E. school district. She was the first female bus driver in White County. Janet was a member of the Norris City United Methodist Church. She raised, trained, and loved to show Quarter Horses including having the number one ranked horse in the nation in the Pleasure Class with Pine Tar Lady. She also had a great love for dogs.

Janet is survived by her sons, John (Sara) Sallee of Nashville, IL, and Kent (Kimberly) Sallee of Carmi, IL; four grandchildren, Lacy (Chris Watts) Sallee, Kerry (Josh) Roetemeyer, Amanda (Chris) Nelson, and Matthew Sallee; five great-grandchildren, Harper and Morris Roetemeyer, Cady, Bentley, and Blakely Nelson; a sister, Helen Hamilton of Mt. Vernon, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, William Sallee Jr, Janet is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Edna Bickley, Tom Osborn, Margaret Williamson, Ben Osborn, and Louise Osborn.

Funeral services for Janet Sallee will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City.  Family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Janet’s memory to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City which is in charge of arrangements.
