2023 02/01 – Donald E. Turner

Donald E. Turner, 85, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 4:04 pm January 26, 2023, at his residence.

He was born August 22, 1937, in Mount Sterling, Illinois to the late Everett and Edna Charlotte (Dirschauer) Turner. Donald married Charlotte (Threatt) Turner on April 13, 1957, in Corinth, Mississippi. They were blessed with 65 years of marriage before her passing on August 30, 2022.

Donald is survived by his children, Randy E. Turner and Robin E. Turner, both of Mount Vernon; granddaughters, Amanda Karrick and husband, Kenneth and Nichole Williams and husband, Matt, all of Mount Vernon; great-grandchildren, Emily Hocking and fiancé, Chad Edwards of Jacksonville, Illinois, Matthew Hocking, Cassy Hocking, Justin Karrick, and Sullivan Williams, all of Mount Vernon; step-great-grandsons, Chaz Karrick of Sandoval, Illinois, Braden Williams, and Camden Williams, both of Dix, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his beloved wife, Donald was preceded in death by his stepfather, Carl Dirschauer; uncles, Roland Longcor and George Longcor; aunt, Maxine Allman; and great-niece and nephew, Ashley Akin and Levi Hughey.

Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion and Jefferson County Shrine Club. Donald was a founding member of the Mount Vernon YMCA, a board member for Mount Catherine Cemetery, and a 26 year AA member and sponsor. He was also a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge #755, Moose Heart-Moose Haven General Assembly Lodge 3000, and the Illinois and Indiana LP Gas Association. Donald was of the Baptist faith and was baptized at Logan Street Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. He was the owner and operator of Turner Propane. In his spare time, Donald loved traveling with his family in their RV. He was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed playing Phase 10 with his family. Most of all, Donald cherished the time he shared with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 5: 00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 10:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home with Reverend Jason Webb officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Post #141. Memorials may be made in Donald’s honor to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
