Salem Police say a 17-year-old Salem juvenile male was injured when his SUV ran off South Broadway and sheared off a power pole and struck a building.
Police report the juvenile was traveling south on the 1400 block of South Broadway when he ran off the left side of the road, traveled 260 feet before going through a roadside ditch, sliding sideways, and rolling multiple times before striking a power pole, shearing it off, and then continuing into the Minor League Sporting building before spinning 180 degrees before coming to a stop. Police say the juvenile was able to crawl out of the vehicle on his own before emergency help arrived.
Police say transformers and electric lines were knocked to the ground where the transformer caught fire for a short time. Ameren Electric crews were called to repair the damage.
The Minor League Building had a few bricks knocked out, but did not appear to have structural damage.
Salem Firemen were called to the scene, but no extrication was necessary.
The crash occurred at two Saturday morning.
