2023 01/27 – Ronald L. ‘Ron’ Bookhout

Ronald L. “Ron” Bookhout formerly of West Salem, Cisne, Albion, Clay City, And Salem, Illinois, passed away peacefully Monday, January 23, 2023, at Richland Care and Rehab in Olney.

Ron was born November 6, 1939, in Marion county, IL. to Glenn and Helen (Mann) Bookhout.

He married Mary Patricia “Pat” Barry on April 26, 1958. After nearly 53 years of loving marriage, she proceeded him in death. He later married Shirley Lemke with whom he shared his final years of faith, family, and friendship. She survives.

Ron was a graduate of Salem Community High School and Southern Illinois University School of Mortuary Science. He was a licensed funeral director for over forty years in the communities in which he lived. He had a passion for his Christian Faith, he loved to sing, and truly enjoyed fishing as much as anything.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Bookhout, and daughter Ronda (Kevin) Lowe, of Cisne. Sons Mike (Angie) Bookhout of Salem, Richard (Marina) Bookhout of Cisne, and Kevin (Trish) Bookhout of Olney.   Fourteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Ron was proceeded in death by his parents, a son, “Jim”, and his brother Joe.

Private visitation and family services will be held Friday afternoon at the Hosselton-Meridith Funeral Home in Cisne with burial in the Cisne Cemetery.  In memory of Ron, memorials may be made to Oil Belt Christian Service Camp.
