A home slated for demolition at 421 South Elm in Centralia was heavily damaged in an early Saturday morning fire.
Centralia City Firefighters say the fire caused the most damage to the center part of the first and second stories. It also burned through the roof and spread to the basement. It was not immediately clear where the fire started, but it is labeled as suspicious because there were no utilities.
Firemen say the home was marked with a Red X indicating it had been condemned and was scheduled for demolition. At one point, the home provided the office space for the PAVE organization.
All available Centralia City Firemen were called in. The Centralia Fire Protection District provided mutual aid at the scene. Sandoval Firemen stood by at the Centralia Fire Station in the event of another fire. The fire call came in at 4:17 Saturday morning with firemen on the scene until just before nine am.
There were no injuries. The Centralia City Fire Investigator plans to work further to determine how the fire started.
The ownership of the home was not immediately clear.
