Leslie A. Hannig, 78, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 12:52 pm on January 6, 2023, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon surrounded by loved ones.

Leslie was born on May 19, 1944, in Sikeston Missouri to the late Buddy and Maxine Lair. She graduated from Sikeston High School and studied at SIU Carbondale.

She worked at Galena Bee Realtors, Vern Wood Press, and retired from Dr. Trivedi’s office. Leslie married Jerry Hannig on August 1, 1987. Leslie and Jerry were married for thirty-five years. Leslie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, writing poetry, listening to music, going to concerts, watching birds, flying kites, and playing Bunco. Leslie had a smile that could light up a room and knew no strangers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jon Lair; sister, Phyllis Stonecipher (Alan); and grandson, Jeffery Haulsen.

Leslie is survived by her beloved husband, Jerry; son, David Heick, Jr. (Denise Burt) of Shiloh, Illinois; daughter, Amie Sanderson (Russell) of Salem, Illinois; son, Stephen Heick (Debra) of Jackson, Missouri; daughter, Danelle Owca of Leesburg, Florida; daughter, Denise Faulkner (D Jay Riddle) of Belleville, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren, Amanda Torres (Nick), Ashley Hartline, Allison Morrison (Greg), Erik Faulkner (Jenna), Brandon Hartline, Lainey Heick, Kaden Heick, Paul Weingartner, Jeron Heick, Micah Sanderson, Jocelyn Sanderson, Gabriella Heick, and Lillian Heick; great-grandchildren, Ridge, Onalee, Zeke Hartline and Blake and Lilah Morrison; brother-in-law, Virgil Hannig (Virginia) of Saint Peters, Missouri; and sister-in-law, Virginia Jansen (Jim) of Carlyle, Illinois.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2023, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend Brian Fuller officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Leslie’s honor to the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer’s Association.
