Darrell L. Stein, 77, of Salem, Illinois passed away on January 1, 2023, at Salem Township Hospital in Salem.Born February 23, 1945, in Centralia, IL, he was the son of Paul C. and Edna J. (Yancey) Stein. They preceded him in death.Visiting hours will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm Friday in the chapel of Sutherland – Rankin Funeral Home in Salem. Burial will be private. He was recently inducted as a veteran into the Centralia Sports Hall of Fame on December 27, 2022. An outdoorsman, he loved to garden, fish, and camp.He married Susan McCree on December 11, 1999, in Salem and she survives in Salem, IL. Between, their children are Steve Stein of Salem, IL, Andrew Holtgrefe and wife Mercedes of Benton, IL, Keri Paulson and husband Tom of Salem, IL, Nicole Hawkins and husband Rick of Lake St. Louis, MO, Jennifer Nix and friend Erik of Effingham, IL, and Sara Buchanan and friend Greg of Odin, IL along with 18 grandchildren. Also one brother Lonnie and wife Judy Stein of Centralia, IL.
