Marion County reports 13 new COVID-19 related deaths

The Marion County Health Department is reporting 13 new COVID-19 related deaths since Christmas Eve Day.   The health department’s weekly report also shows 162 new cases bringing the total number of positive or probable cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began to exactly 8,000.  Four nursing homes in the county are currently in outbreak status.

Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says one of the deaths was a male in his 70s who was a long-term care resident who had not been vaccinated.  Four of the deaths were among those fully vaccinated.  They were two males in their 80s and a male in his 60s who were all hospitalized as well as a female in her 90s.  The eight others were not vaccinated.  They included a male in his 80s and two females in their 70s who were all in the hospital.  The other unvaccinated deaths were two males and a female in their 50s, a male in his 60s, and a female in her 70s.

Of the 162 new cases, 45 were fully vaccinated.   The positives included a non-vaccinated nursing home resident.  Cases spanned all age groups.  15 who are school age and one who is four years old and younger.  29 of the cases were in their 20s, 23 in their 30s, 24 in their 40s, 27 in their 50s, 21 in their 60s, 17 in their 70s, and three in their 80s.

The health department is considering 153 of the cases as community spread and nine as the result of household or close contacts.

There are now 393 active cases in Marion County, including 16 in the hospital.  Of those one is on a ventilator, one is under three months of age, one is under 13, two in their 40s, six in their 50s, three in their 60s, six in their 50s. three in their 60s, two in their 70s, and one in their 80s.

114 were released from isolation from Christmas Eve to December 30th.
