The FOID card process should be more convenient come January first.
State Trooper Josh Robinson says the goal is to streamline applying for and renewing your FOID card by issuing cards that don’t expire. He notes individuals who have a valid concealed carry license will benefit as well.
“Basically instead of having two separate cards, paying two separate fees for renewal, you will have just one combined card. It takes up less wallet space and it saves the holder money, and it is just easier to keep track of.”
When a current FOID card expires, but the CCL is still valid, the FOID card will be automatically renewed and no fee will be charged.
