The Centralia City Council Monday night will consider new four year contract agreements with Operating Engineers Local 399 and the International Association of Firefighters Local #618.

City Manager Scott Randall says the contracts call for a four percent wage increase each year along with some changes in benefits. The two unions have already approved the contracts. The Operating Engineers Union includes 30 members and the firefighters agreement covers 15 fulltime firefighters.

The council will be asked to purchase two new Ford F150 pickup trucks for police department squad vehicles through the State Bid held by Morrow Brothers Ford at a cost of $79,870. A resolution will request a $19,965 grant from the Insurance Program Managers Group be approved to pay for the purchase of 16 new tasers for the police department.

The council will consider a $14,880 proposal from Global Technical Systems, Inc for the upgrade and installation of the Emergency Siren Radio System.

Only four of the city’s six emergency warning sirens can currently be activated remotely which would be corrected by the repairs.

The council will also be asked to raise grave opening fees at the Elmwood Cemetery. The cost for Monday through Friday and Sunday openings will increase by $100 and Saturday openings by $150. Cremation openings will increase $125 for weekdays, $150 for Saturdays and $125 for Sundays.

The council will be asked to approve Kujawa and Batteau to complete next year’s fiscal audit at a cost of $34,000. The firm is the only one to bid. They completed this year’s city audit. A resolution will be presented that would allow the use of Raccoon Lake for the boat races hosted by the National Boat Racing Association August 10th through the 14th.

The meeting gets underway at six Monday night at Centralia City Hall. The council voted at the last meeting to discontinue Zoom broadcasts of the meeting.
