Phyllis Ann Rector, 91, of Springfield, Tennessee, formerly of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 10:25 pm December 7, 2022, at Morningside in Springfield. She was born July 9, 1931, in Wayne City, Illinois to the late Robert Cleve and Bertha Mae (Cope) Peddicord. She married Alva “Ab” Rector in 1952 and were married for 21 years.
Phyllis is survived by her three children, Jeffrey Rector and wife, Marjorie, Julie (Rector) Marlin and fiancé, Gary Thielman and Daniel Rector and significant other, Toni Straka; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Rector and wife Jana, David Rector, Matthew Rector, and wife Danielle, Brittney (Kennedy) Ayres and husband Scott; and eight great-grandchildren Cayleigh Rath, Gracie, Cole, Levi, Brooke, Cameron, Knox, and Rett.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her former husband, Alva “AB” Rector; four sisters: Marjorie Bond, Mildred Owens, Ruth McKeon, and Wanda Moss and three brothers: Wayne Peddicord, Robert “Bob” Peddicord, and Stanley Peddicord.
Phyllis worked as a telephone operator for 35 years for Illinois Bell in Mt Vernon. She enjoyed the outdoors, birds, flowers, gardening, riding horses, collecting antiques, music, and traveling. Phyllis was a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll. She was sweet and sassy to the end. Phyllis was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022, from 12:00 to 1:30 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:30 with Don Rector officiating. Interment will follow at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Phyllis’ honor to the Dementia Society of America.
