2022 12/15 – Joyce K. Sample

Joyce K. Sample, 74, of Centralia, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia with her family at her side.

She was born November 22, 1948, in Centralia, IL to Roy and Mildred (Hoeinghaus) James.

Joyce is survived, by her husband of 54 years, David A. Sample; son: Ronald Sample and wife Tara of Aviston, Il; daughter: Julie Wilson and husband Jeff of Colleyville, TX; 3 grandkids: Katie Sample, Hunter Sample, and Justin Sample of Aviston; sister: Janice Ring of Centralia; 2 brothers: Larry James and wife Vickey of Centralia and Thomas James and wife Michelle of Centralia; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Roy and Mildred James; a daughter: Laura A. Sample; as well as 4 sisters, and 3 brothers.

Joyce worked in various service industry positions before landing her favorite role as a homemaker. She looked forward to sharing her love of cooking and baking with her family and friends, especially the items she made for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed going fishing with her husband and on more than one occasion wound up with the first-place catch.

A decision has been made to have no public funeral service with private family burial will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. In memory of Joyce, donations may be made for her grandkids’ college fund, First General Baptist Church of Centralia, or First Baptist Church of Carlyle and will be accepted at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to Joyce’s family.
