The Salem Wildcats fell to 3-3 on the season and dropped their Cahokia Conference opener at Breese Central 44-36. Caden Bee was the top scorer for Salem with 10. Brady Moore finished with 23 for the Cougars. The first quarter was a defensive battle that saw Central lead 8-6 and extend it to 23-16 at the halftime break. Salem cut it to 4 multiple times with big plays from Kaleb Anthony making his season debut. He had a steal and bucket and then 2 more buckets on consecutive possessions. Ultimately the Cats fell behind a little too much and Central put them away with Free Throws late. The Cats return to action Tuesday night at home against Mascoutah.
The Salem Freshmen open up their season this morning with a 10am game at Breese Mater Dei.

The Sandoval Blackhawks defeated First Baptist Academy of O’Fallon 61-41. Sandoval will open up their home schedule next Friday against Grayville. Their original game scheduled against Waltonville for Tuesday has been moved to February 5th with a noon JV tip.
South Central improved to 3-1 with their 61-36 win over Patoka/Odin. Aidan Dodson led the Cougars with 17, Kennin Willshire added 12 and Brandt Hiestand 11. Belcher finished with 12 for Patoka/Odin. SC won the JV game 32-31 on Rahkeim Anderson’s buzzer beater for the win. The SC Freshmen were also winners 35-17. SC will play at Vandalia on Tuesday.
At the Carlyle Kaskaskian last night, Flora beat Woodlawn 47-25 and Greenville over Okawville 60-42. The tournament finishes up today starting with the 7th place game at 3 with Woodlawn and Okawville, then Carlyle and Nokomis for 5th place at 4:30, Hillsboro and Greenville are in the 3rd place game at 6pm then the championship between Flora and Pinckneyville at 7:30.
At the DuQuoin Tip Off last night, Red Bud beat Cairo 67-49, DuQuoin over West Frankfort 90-68. Today the round robin tournament finishes with Red Bud and West Frankfort at 11 followed by Cairo and Carmi, Carmi then Red Bud and finally DuQuoin and Cairo.
At the Goreville Invite, Goreville beat Johnston City 72-66, Anna over Hardin County 53-52, Benton over Hamilton County 49-48. Today, Anna plays Johnston City at 4, Hamilton County and Hardin County play at 4:30 and then Benton and Goreville.
At Trico/Murphysboro last night, Lovejoy beat Chester 54-50, Murphysboro over Harrisburg 56-36, Carterville 72-39 over Sparta and Steeleville beat Trico 69-40. The day today begins with Chester and Sparta for 7th place at 1, Harrisburg and Trico for 5th place at 2:30, Lovejoy and Carterville for 3rd at 4pm and then Murphysboro and Steeleville play for the title at 5:30.
