Edward Phelps Buchanan, Sr. passed away on the morning of November 23, 2022, in Harlingen, Texas, after a long-fought battle with congestive heart failure and other complications, at the age of 55.
Born on July 2, 1967, in Mendota, Illinois, to parents Ray Buchanan and Linda Stein Miller. He is survived by his wife Jessica (Curiel) Buchanan of 31 years. His daughter, Erica (Buchanan) McGann, son-in-law Tim McGann, and granddaughter Elsie McGann. Daughter, Rachel (Buchanan) O’Callaghan, son-in-law Ben O’Callaghan, and grandson Griffin O’Callaghan. Son, Edward Phelps Buchanan Jr., daughter-in-law Sarah (Young) Buchanan, and granddaughter Andi Buchanan. Daughter from a previous marriage, Stephanie (Buchanan-Pacin) Joseph, son-in-law Chris Joseph, and grandchildren Jax, Chase, Ellie, Max, and Naomi. Mother, Linda (Buchanan) Miller; sister Loucinda (Buchanan) Wolcott; sister Suzanne (Buchanan) Vitela; brother Daniel Buchanan as well as numerous other family and friends.
Edward grew up in Northern Illinois and graduated from Ridgewood Baptist Academy in 1985. He joined the Army in 1985 and had a distinguished military career, until his honorable discharge in 1991 as a Sergeant in the Military Police. He was married to Jessica (Curiel) Buchanan in San Antonio, TX. while stationed at Fort Sam Houston on March 9, 1991. Edward enjoyed a fulfilling career as a Master Electrician. He was gratefully employed at H&H Electric as an Operations Manager in Fredericksburg, VA. He received his Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Edward also shared his love of his career through teaching courses in the Electrical Apprentice Program, encouraging younger generations to join the profession at Germanna Community College in Fredericksburg, VA. Edward’s greatest joy was his children, grandchildren and family. He enjoyed coaching and attending numerous sporting events as his children grew up. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Some of his favorite memories were spent hunting and fishing with his son, sons-in-law, and close friends. He loved animals, adopting and rescuing many dogs who became members of his “misfit dog pack.” He had a great sense of humor and loved making others laugh and smile. Edward was a strong man of Faith and a true patriot, he loved his nation and actively supported local veteran organizations through volunteer work and gifts-in-kind.
Edward “Buck” Buchanan touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Edward’s funeral service will be held at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, IL, at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
