No holiday lights for Capitol Dome. Again

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Capitol dome in Springfield will be without holiday lights for the third straight year.

Officials say the same structural issue involving an observation deck that kept workers from hanging some 1,300 lights on the dome in 2019 and again last year hasn’t been resolved yet.

The lights were first hung on the dome in 1924 and the lights on the dome _ until 2019 _ had been an annual tradition since the 1960s.

The next step is for the secretary of state’s office to work with the Capital Development Board to come up with funding for the project.
