A 34-year-old Salem man could face additional charges after breaking a light in his cell and then attempting to use the wires to light a homemade cigarette.

Marion County Sheriff’s officials have asked that Damon DeBoer of South Jefferson face additional charges of criminal damage to property and bringing contraband into a penal institution.

DeBoer is already being held in lieu of $50,000 bond on another criminal damage to jail property for damaging an interview room table, as well as burglary and theft charges.

DeBoer was unsuccessful of getting his bond lowered in a hearing earlier this week.
