2022 11/25 – Jabez ‘Jay’ Albert Baysinger

Jabez “Jay” Albert Baysinger, 96, of Sandoval went Home to the Lord, Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Odin Health Care Center.

He was born on January 26, 1926, the son of Lawrence “Dick” and Grayce (Webster) Baysinger in Centralia. He married the love of his life, Alma Ford on August 13, 1961, in New Haven and she survives him in Sandoval.

Along with his beloved wife, Alma Baysinger, Jay leaves behind his children Jennifer Baysinger of Sandoval, Edith Pierce and husband Don of South Haven, Michigan, and Grace Dennis and husband Frank of Santa Rosa, California; grandchildren Michelle, Michael, Amy, and Donald Jr.

Mr. Baysinger was preceded in death by his mother Grayce (Webster) Baysinger; and his father Lawrence “Dick” Baysinger.

Jay was a graduate of Centralia High School and served in the Navy during World War II as a second-class shipfitter. College included Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and Carthage College in Carthage, Illinois. Jay taught high school in Michigan and Illinois with his last school at Sandoval High School. He coached football, basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball. He taught Math, Biology, and Driver’s Ed, and was the Athletic Director. Jay met his wife Alma while teaching at Sandoval, they married on August 13, 1961. He always said they started smiling at each other and never stopped. At retirement, Jay and Alma enjoyed camping. Jay also went duck and goose hunting but enjoyed more the breakfast he and his fellow hunters would cook in the johnboat while waiting for the birds to arrive. He also enjoyed reading, listening to bluegrass and gospel music, along with watching the St. Louis Cardinal games.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2022, at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval with Pastor Brian High officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in rural Sandoval. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home in Sandoval.
