A Centralia Police officer sustained a sprained ankle when attempting to arrest a man wanted on a no bond IDOC warrant and retail theft at the Walmart store.
Police Chief Greg Dodson says Dewayne Johnson-Emory of Centralia was spotted in the Fairview Shopping Center shortly after Walmart had reported he was involved in a retail theft.
In the pursuit, Johnson-Emory allegedly jumped over a ditch and the officer was injured when trying to do the same.
Johnson-Emory was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Clinton County Jail at Carlyle.
Dodson says the officer was treated at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital and released. He’s hoping he can return to work by the end of the week.
