The Centralia City Council has raised the fees for vehicles ordered towed by the Police Department.
City Manager Scott Randall says this is the first increase since 2014.
“We will be increasing the fee from a tow from $85 to $100, and after hour tows from $120 to $140. There is also an increase in storage fee for vehicles kept for a period of time. That will increase from $30 to $35 per day.”
The new charges take effect January 1st. Randall worked with Police Chief Greg Dodson on the new fee structure.
The city council appropriated an additional $27,000 to this year’s summer oil and chip program as a result of the initial estimate being over budget due to a greater amount of materials being used and increased cost of the oil and chip. The total cost of improving the 15 miles of street now totals $146,936. The council was told the city has a $1-million balance in their motor fuel tax fund so money is available to pay the extra cost.
The council passed a resolution declaring $4,371 in water and sewer bills uncollectable. Many are past the ten-year statute of limitations or bankruptcy was involved.
The Downtown Christmas Stroll Committee will be able to use the Illinois Theatre for their event provided they can provide a certificate of insurance.
