2022 11/19 – Scotty (Freezeman) Qualk

Scotty (Freezeman) Qualk, 70 of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022.

He was born October 7, 1952, in Akron, Ohio to the late Walt Qualk and Mary (Scott) Herndon. Scotty grew up in Mayfield, Kentucky where he graduated from high school in 1971. He attended Murray State until he was drafted into the Army. He moved to Mount Vernon to work at General Tire and married Valerie (Diel) Qualk on July 28, 1978. They were blessed with forty-four years of marriage.

Scotty loved his family and friends. He loved being the best Pappy to his grandchildren. Scotty worked at Continental Tire for forty-seven years before retiring in April 2022. He loved the Cleveland Browns and Saint Louis Cardinals. He will be remembered most for bringing people joy through his music. Scotty was indeed one of a kind and loved to make people laugh. His favorite saying was, “Kindness Matters.” He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Scott is survived by his wife, Valerie Qualk; daughter, Ambur Emrich and husband, Shane Emrich; and daughter, Kelly Jo Qualk all of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Dawson Scott Welch, Adelya Jo McKelvy, Rylee Jo McDaniel Raegan Ann McDaniel, Hayden Andrew McKelvy, and Lennon Rayne Emrich; his mother-in-law, June Diel of Mount Vernon, and step mother, Ann Qualk of Mayfield, Kentucky; siblings, Bud and Whenna Qualk of Paducah, Kentucky, Karen and Dennis Tucker of Union, Missouri, and Heidi Qualk and partner, Kim Riordan of Punta Gorda, Florida; sister-in-law, Vicki Hanson of Mesa, Arizona; brother-in-law, Gene Monnot of Louisville, Ohio; sister-in-law, Nevi Caster of Malvern, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Butch Casler of Malvern, Ohio; sister, Sharon Kay of Louisville, Ohio; and brother-in-law, Robert Hanson of Mesa, Arizona.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Memorial Service will begin at 12:00 pm with Reverend Stacy Tate officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow the Memorial Service at Mount Vernon Sportsman’s Club. Memorials may be made in Scott’s honor to Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.
