2022 11/17 – Larry ‘Muddy Boots’ Ray Myers, Sr

Larry ‘Muddy Boots’ Ray Myers, Sr., 84, of Centralia, passed away Friday, November 11, 2022, at Saint Louis University Hospital.

He was born March 18, 1938, in Centralia, the son of Monty Morton Myers and Louise (Ingram) Myers. He married Ruth Ann Robinett on November 25, 1964, and she survives.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Ruth Ann Myers of Centralia, he is also survived by his two children: Tricia Slagley and husband Chris and Larry Myers, Jr. and wife Michele; six grandsons: Stephen Bryant, Shawn Myers and wife Nessa, Larry Myers, III, Jeremy Myers, Rob Slagley, and Jacob Barker; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Monte and Louise Myers, brothers: Jerry ‘Jay Bird’ Myers, John ‘Bob’ Myers, Monty ‘Bud’ Myers, and Paul Myers, three sisters: Aldenia Moran, Betty Downen, and Grace Greer, grandson: Robert ‘Robb’ Johnson, Jr., and a nephew: Coy Myers.

Larry served in the U.S. Army. He worked at the Hollywood Candy Factory, Zeiglers for 10 years and then for the City of Centralia in the Water Department for 23 years.

In his earlier years, he enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle. He was also a member of the Foundation Free Methodist Church in Centralia. Larry was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan. He had a passion for going to Thrift Stores, driving to KFC in Salem to get his chicken, and sitting in his swing reading his Bible. Larry cherished the time he spent with his family, friends, and his four-legged companion: Rocky.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 1:00 PM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Jeremy Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Evergreen Cemetery in Central City. Military Honors will be accorded at the gravesite by the Centralia American Legion Post 446 and Centralia V.F.W. Post 2055. Visitation will be held Thursday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
