The Marion County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a 40-year-old Salem man for burglary, criminal damage to property and theft of a motor vehicle in connection with a Sunday incident at a Rural Country Mark oil field facility southwest of Salem.
Eric DeWitt is accused of entering through a secure fence and breaking into a storage building. Several items were reportedly taken. Detectives say an oil tanker parked at the site was driven through the fence and continued several hundred feet before it become stuck. Batteries were then reportedly removed from the truck. Damage is expected to be in the thousands of dollars.
DeWitt was taken to the Marion County Jail. Sheriff’s detectives are not currently seeking anybody else in connection with the case.
