A rural Mt. Vernon man was injured when his SUV hit the rear of a horse drawn buggy on State Route 142 between Belle Rive and Opdyke Sunday night.

Jefferson Fire Protection District officials say Tyler Miles was westbound when he hit the buggy. The impacted caused his vehicle to run off the road and roll several times before coming to a stop. Miles was taken to a local hospital for treatment of an arm injury.

Fire officials say the two 17-year-old juvenile females in the wagon were both thrown out. However, they appeared not to be injured and were able to take the horse pulling the buggy to a neighbor’s house. The buggy was heavily damaged.

The crash occurred at 8:57 Sunday night.

Reports on the crash are not yet available from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office.
