Darlene Bandy, age 89 of Salem and formerly of Kell, passed away at her home on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Darlene was baptized at the age of 15 in the Lost Fork Creek in Omega. She attended Brown School from grades 1 – 8, graduating from Kinmundy High School in 1951. Darlene worked in Kell planting and picking strawberries, at the grocery store, and with her husband Vernon, at the fertilizer plant. Then she worked as a medical transcriptionist at Salem Hospital, retiring after 30 years in 2002. She shared her talent of playing the piano and organ at Kell Baptist Church and teaching bible school.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM, Saturday November 12, 2022 at the First Christian Church in Salem, with the Reverends Jerry Montgomery and Phil Martin officiating. Visitation will be Friday, November 11, 2022 from 5 – 7 PM and also one hour prior to service on Saturday at the First Christian Church. Burial will follow in the Zion Grove Cemetery near Kell. Memorials can be made to Pregnancy Care Clinic Salem and Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children and will be collected at the service or through L.R. Osborn and Son Funeral Home in Kell.
Darlene is survived by sons, Steve Bandy and wife Pam of Salem, Gary Bandy and wife Tammy Johnston City, Kevin Bandy of Johnston City and daughter, Carol Vieira and husband Mike of Kinmundy. Also surviving are grandchildren, Eric Bandy and wife Kelly, Adam Bandy and wife Jayme, John Smith, Jeremy Bandy, Brent Bandy and fiancé Emma, Ryan Little and wife Amy, Kristen Todtenhausen and husband Chris, Taylor Bandy, Reed Bandy, Craig Vieira and wife Cheryl, Jenny Mann and husband Ed and by 14 great grandchildren, sister in law, Sue Mulvaney and several nieces and nephews.
Darlene was born August 27, 1933 in Marion County to Lonnie William and Lena Mabel (Harrell) Mulvaney. She married Vernon Bandy November 18, 1950. He proceeded her in death on February 26, 2017. She was proceeded in death by sisters LaFern and husband Richard Soldner and Velma and husband Eugene Kepner and brother Eugene Mulvaney, and by 2 grandchildren, Devin Bandy and Kyle Little.
