A 55-year-old truck driver Curtis Woolever of Wayne City was injured late Tuesday morning when his rig was struck by a train at the Birch Street crossing in Belle Rive along the Evansville Western Railway tracks.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies say Woolever failed to see the train and the left front of the semi was struck by the front of the train. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries by Litton Ambulance. No one on the train was injured.
The train was traveling at 25 mph when the crash occurred.
Jefferson Rural Firemen were also called to the scene. They assisted Woolever in getting into the ambulance as well as handling a resulting diesel spill.
