Corn and soybean yields are still expected to be higher than last year according to the latest crop production report.
Crop statistician Mark Schleusener says although fewer acres were planted with corn this year, the yield is anticipated to be high.
“Total production of corn in Illinois is forecast to be 2.24 billion bushels up 5% from last year and 2nd among the states behind Iowa’s corn production of 2.5 billion bushels.”
Schleusener says soybeans will be setting records this year.
“The soybean yield forecast in Illinois at a record high of 64 bushels per acre up 4 from last year and unchanged from last year. The total production of soybeans in Illinois is forecast at a record high of 675-million bushels, up 10% from last year, the highest among all 50 states.”
Meanwhile, the fall harvest is winding down. 90% of corn and 85% of soybeans have been harvested, about a 10 point gain over the previous week. 80% of winter wheat has been planted and 59% has emerged.
