For the Fifth year Saved with Amazing Grace and the YMCA are hosting a Community Thanksgiving Dinner this coming Saturday at the Apostolic Church in Salem.

SWAG’s Chris Watkins expects to at least reach the same 1,300 number of dinners served last year. Dinners will be available from ten to four. There will be a place to eat in at the Apostolic Church at 1600 Mills Cart Road. Watkins says pick-up and delivery will also be available.

“Apostolic Church has been awesome as far as preparing the food.  We will probably have anywhere between 30-40 people preparing and delivering meals.  We will take 500 meals to Centralia to Herb Williams and let him distribute that.  We do need people to help with deliveries so if you can help come to the Apostolic Church at 10:00.”

To set up deliveries, call the Apostolic Church at 618-548-3438 or Maureen at 630-362-7460.

Watkins says blankets will also be available on Saturday for those in need.

“Our blankets are slow right now so if people want to donate blankets that would be great.  Last year at this time we had around 100 blankets, right now we have bout 15.”

If you can donate a blanket, they can be dropped in boxes set up at Dollar General, Treasure Creek, or in the lobby of Salem Township Hospital. Blankets will be picked up on Friday to get them ready for distribution.

SWAG and YMCA along with downtown Salem businesses are also preparing for the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Claus at Sweney’s Corner on Saturday, December 4th, from three to six pm. Toys are also being collected for distribution that day.
