The registration area for patients entering Salem Township Hospital through the emergency room entrance will be renovated.
Hospital President Alex Nazarian says a $217,000 contract has been awarded to Beavis Construction of Mt. Vernon to complete the work during the next four months.
“It all was working fine before the Covid hit but then we realized when the pandemic hit it is not designed for open infection control. So now we are going to reconstruct it in a way that the patient flow is socially distanced, privacy is more emphasized and the waiting room area will be socially distanced with infection control in place.”
Nazarian says the registration area will remain in operation during the work.
“We are going to have it in phases. Different projects will be done that we will start and finish one part with as little disruption as possible. And we can have patient flow going on in one area while working on the other side.”
Nazarian says some walls will be taken down and reconstructed and shielding will be placed between seating as part of the project.
