Centralia Mayor Bryan Kuder has declared next week as Women in Business Week and October 23rd as Equal Pay Day.   Both resolutions were passed on behalf of the Centralia Business and Professional Women’s Club that is celebrating its 95th Birthday this year.   As part of the celebration, BPW will announce its Woman and Boss of the Year next Wednesday.   An Equal Pay Day Rally will be held at one pm on October 23rd at the Centralia American Legion with a march to city hall to follow.

The Centralia City Council informed Tim Snyder that they would not reconsider a new no-parking zone along Pittenger Alley.   Snyder, who owns two buildings in the block, then asked the city to use eminent domain proceedings to purchase parking that is part of a vacant bank complex on the block to provide a parking area for businesses impacted.   While no action was taken, Councilman Rob Jackson in his comments promised Snyder he would not be forgotten and he would work to come up with a solution.

The council agreed to keep its $500,000 line of credit with Midland States Bank in the event of a financial emergency.  The council has had the credit since 2012 but has never had to use it.

Gonzalez Companies LLC was approved to perform engineering and engineering inspection services for next year’s oil and chip summer street maintenance program.

Community Development Director Gayla Harting and city staff that assisted her were commended for the Celebrate Centralia event held last Saturday night.
