Ron Mueller, 74, of Irvington passed away at 6:15 am on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, Il surrounded by family.
Ron was born December 9, 1947, in Belleville, Il to the late Nelson and Viola (Jehling) Mueller. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Millstadt, Il. He married Barbara Lynn Dixon on March 30, 1968, in Millstadt, Il, and she survives.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, Ron is survived by his children Robert (Michele) Mueller of Walnut Hill, Mathew Mueller and special friend Pam Haefner, and Krista Parrett (Jake) of Homer, Alaska. His grandchildren Logan and son Beau, Adam, Allison, and Isley. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Bob Dixon, Larry Dixon (Debbie), Terry Dixon, Richard Campen, nieces, and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, sister Linda, and in-laws Roy and Glenna Dixon.
Ron proudly served as a staff sergeant in the United States Army from 1968-1971. He belonged to the VFW Post #7980 in Millstadt, Il. Ron was a member of the Centralia Lodge #1219 Loyal Order of Moose and the United Transportation Union.
Ron worked for the Illinois Central/Canadian National Railroad for 36 years traveling from Iowa to Louisiana inspecting scales. He retired as the Manager of Scale Operations in Centralia, Il. He held several chairmanships with weights and measures; Chairman of AREMA, National Conference on Weights and Measures, Chairman Committee #34, and Director of the National Scale Association. As a hobby, he created model railroads on his train table.
Ron was a professional musician, performing since he was 12 years old. He played the accordion, organ, and keyboards and was the lead vocalist in various bands throughout his lifetime. He last played with Sound Advice. In the summer of 1982, Ron and his brother-in-law Larry purchased a cabin on Lake Centralia that became a gathering place for family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, swimming, water sports, and pontoon cruising along with teaching people how to waterski. He loved his family, friends, dogs, pets, nature, family vacations, and going on cruises.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville with Rev. Mark Myers officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Irvington Fire Department or the Washington County Animal Control.
