A 28-year-old Centralia man faces two counts of aggravated battery and violation of an order of protection in the aftermath of two chases involving Centralia Police.
Jerry Zappa of South Elm was arrested at the conclusion of the second chase that started in Centralia and went to Germantown before a Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputy successfully deployed stop sticks to disable his car.
Zappa is charged in the first incident with aggravated battery to a police officer after allegedly dragging a Centralia Police Officer with his car after fleeing a traffic stop. The officer eventually was able to break Zappa’s hold and gave chase in his squad car. However, Zappa was able to get away.
He’s charged with aggravated battery and violation of an order of protection after he intentionally ran his car head on into his estranged wife’s car. Centralia Police were able to intervene as Zappa began chasing her around Centralia. The chase with police eventually left town to the Germantown area.
Bond for Zappa was set at $25,000. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim, her residence, or her employment if released on bond. Zappa had the public defender appointed to represent him.
