Corn and soybean harvesting is underway as we hear in the weekly crop report.
This past week was warmer than normal and rainfall was just a bit above average, leaving about 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork. 83% of corn acres are mature and 21% of the crop has been harvested. Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener looks at soybeans.
“66% of acres were dropping leaves compared to 59% normally. 10% of soybean acres have been harvested compared to 11% normally. Soybeans conditioned declined form last week rated as 6% very poor to poor, 22% fair and 72% good to excellent.”
Average statewide topsoil moisture dropped to 11% very short, 29% short, 58% adequate and 2% surplus. 2% of winter wheat has been planted.
