A fire believed to be electrical in nature heavily damaged the attic area of a Centralia home Sunday afternoon.
Centralia City Firefighters say the occupants of the home at 617 South Maple smelled a “BBQ type smoke” before leaving their home about an hour before neighbors spotted smoke coming out the eves.
The home is occupied by the Cedric Webster family and owned by Caleb Edson.
Firemen say upon arrival they found no fire in the living portion of the home and began pulling down ceiling tiles to reach the fire in the attic. The fire did break through the roof of the home at one location. However, there was heavy smoke and water damage to the living area.
All available Centralia City Firemen were called in to help fight the fire. The Centralia Fire Protection District was called for mutual aid assistance at the scene while Sandoval Firemen stood by at the Centralia Fire Station in the event of another fire.
