Salem Police say both men involved in an altercation where one was struck by a car have been arrested for aggravated battery.
Police say the series of incidents began on North Hotze Road north of the Super Eight when a car driven by 39-year-old Craig Taylor of Van Buren Street in Junction City had stopped to talk to 51-year-old Bryan Hester of Hotze Road in Salem who was parked along the road. Taylor allegedly punched Hester through the window before Hester drove into the field north of Super Eight. After circling around, Hester allegedly struck Taylor throwing him to the side of the car. Hester and Taylor then reportedly drove their separate vehicles to Fast Mart on North Hotze Road. Taylor allegedly exited his vehicle with a shovel. He dropped it as police requested upon their arrival. However, Taylor then ran over and kicked Hester while the officer was watching.
Taylor refused treatment for an arm injury he reportedly received when being struck by the vehicle.
Both were given notices to appear for aggravated battery.
The incident began just before noon on Wednesday.
