The state’s I-Cash Program returned $226 million in unclaimed property during the last fiscal year.

The property went to an estimated 174,000 people, with the average claim coming in around $1,000 says Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs, whose office runs I-Cash.

“They could be a last paycheck that was never picked up, a forgotten bank account, a rebate or refund you never received, or proceeds from a unknown life insurance policy.  Corporation’s are holding on to money that belongs to Illinois citizens and we fight on their behalf to get it back in their hands.”

Frerichs says it’s easy to search the I-Cash database to see if you have any outstanding money or items.
