The Centralia City Council is looking to enter into a fleet management agreement with Enterprise to replace some of the city’s old pickup trucks that are mostly more than 20 years old.

City Manager Forrest Langenfeld says the arrangement is something the city budget can afford after going years without any vehicle replacement program.

“This is a good program that replaces 6 trucks in the Public Works Department and one vehicle in the Fire Department.  And with the price of vehicles these days we stand to walk away from these agreements with pretty good equity.”

Langenfeld says the cost of the lease will be $41,761 for each of the four years. At that point, he estimates the city could have $66,160 in equity in the vehicles.

Langenfeld would like to replace more aging vehicles under the program, but right now the city cannot afford to do so.

The council also approved a $395,000 lease-purchase agreement for a new sewer cleaner.

The council gave the go-ahead to Curry and Associate Engineers, Incorporated to perform engineering for the preparation of a conceptual plan for a new water plant. The cost is not to exceed $45,000. Langenfeld wants to have plans ready for potential federal funding for such projects.
